O “The Minstrel Boy” é uma música que me persegue há muito tempo... para mim, e para a tua sobrinha agora, há de ser sempre o som do “Homem Que Queria Ser Rei”. Um hino irlandês anti-belicista (é ver a letra do Thomas Moore) servir de banda-sonora a uma mais-ou-menos-crítica do imperialismo branco e a melhor versão que lhe apanhei ser dum baixo-barítono afro-americano extremamente engajado com o movimento dos direitos civis é a ilustração de como o mundo é um sítio interessante:

The Minstrel-Boy to the war is gone,
    In the ranks of death you'll find him;
His father's sword he has girded on,
    And his wild harp slung behind him.
"Land of song!" said the warrior-bard,
    "Tho' all the world betrays thee,
One sword, at least, thy rights shall guard,
    One faithful harp shall praise thee!"

 
The Minstrel fell!—but the foeman's chain
    Could not bring that proud soul under;
The harp he lov'd ne'er spoke again,
